Why We Started 🐾
Practically Pawfect Pets started with our own dog, Bella.
Bella is the oldest of our three pups, and she went through a long and difficult health journey. It began with a bowel obstruction that required surgery, and not long after, she started developing severe skin issues. Her fur began falling out in patches, her skin was constantly red and irritated, and she was scratching and chewing at herself nonstop.
We tried everything—multiple vet visits, allergy medications, diet changes, injections—but nothing seemed to help long-term. For about two years, we cycled through steroids to manage the itching, which then led to other complications like recurring UTIs that required antibiotics, only for the cycle to start all over again.
Eventually, with our vet’s input, we started digging deeper into her diet. Because Bella is part husky, we learned she may have been struggling to properly absorb zinc from highly processed kibble. We introduced an easily accessible zinc supplement and began adding more natural, zinc-rich ingredients into homemade meals for all of our dogs.
And something finally changed—Bella improved. She was finally comfortable again, and her skin issues cleared.
That experience completely changed the way we looked at pet food and treats.
As we began carefully reading every ingredient label, we were shocked by how many fillers, preservatives, and unnecessary additives are hidden in most processed dog treats and chews. We realized that even the “normal” options weren’t always the best options.
We didn’t want to just create another dog treat product. We wanted to give pet parents more control.
Then one day, while making a simple brownie mix in my own kitchen, it clicked: what if dog treats could be made the same way? A dry, easy-to-use mix that anyone could turn into fresh, homemade treats—using simple, natural ingredients and nothing unnecessary.
And that’s how Practically Pawfect Pets was born.
Today, our treat mixes are designed to make it simple, fun, and rewarding to bake homemade dog treats right at home—so you always know exactly what’s going into your dog’s snacks.
Because we believe the best treats aren’t processed… they’re made with love, in your own kitchen.
